Born in 1932 to Danish parents stationed abroad in the Far East, Karen lived her first years under the dazzling Indian sun, near the vast, dark blue Bay of Bengal. She moved back to Denmark with her family well before the Second World War and has been there ever since.

Karen studied at an art school in Copenhagen and upon graduation worked in a studio, which was owned by a company that printed cards & wraps for Caspari. She worked directly with George Caspari creating layouts for Caspari Christmas cards and thus an artistic relationship was born that is still thriving today, 50 years later.

Karen has run her own business out of her studio in rural Denmark since 1957. "First in a valley, then on a hilltop, and now on the flat, fertile plains of Sjaelland."

“The nature around me, the glittering whiteness of winter, the lush green fields of spring and summer, the golden glory of autumn, the fairy blue of the sea and sky, the warbling birds, the grazing deer, the gamboling lambs and the laughter and happy faces of my children and grandchildren all form the solid basis for the ‘joie de vivre’ that guides my brush while painting”.
