When Pamela Gladding walks through her garden, as a decorative artist, she is inspired by the natural beauty and translates it into detailed designs that have graced home furnishings, tabletop items, posters, stationery and wall covering for close to two decades.
Pamela's studio is situated on 80 acres of land, filled with massive flowerbeds and surrounded by woods and mountains. Her garden is both her inspiration and her haven. Not surprisingly, her portfolio is brimming with floral designs that show off her love of traditional images rendered with a different decorative twist. "There is nothing quite like the real thing," according to Pamela. "When I am looking for color inspiration or the slightest nuance, I go out to my garden and look at it. My garden does the work for me and gives me new ideas."
Pamela's work also reflects her love of fine art and antiquity. While enrolled at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, Pamela had the opportunity to travel extensively in Rome, Paris, Switzerland and Amsterdam. Here she was exposed to the discipline and traditions of fine art, which continue to influence her work today. I draw for a feeling of age and timelessness.
For several years before turning her talents to the decorative arts field, Pamela was one of the few professional harpsichord painters in the world. That venture reinforced her eye for detail. She also learned to use the texture of the wood to create interesting dimension, a technique she continues to employ today.
