Each year at Caspari we celebrate Virginia’s Historic Garden Week by hosting a floral exhibition in our Downtown Charlottesville shop. We opened our doors and gather to celebrate the arrival of spring and highlight the incredible talent of local florists, landscape designers, and our very own local Garden Clubs. As we planned for the event this year inspiration struck when we were reminded of the grandeur of the Royal Horticulture Society’s annual Chelsea Flower Show. We decided to bring a little piece of London to the streets of the Charlottesville Downtown Mall with the theme “Little Chelsea”.
During the hustle and bustle of coordinating the event, our friends at The Scout Guide introduced us to Allison of Hillbrook Collections and we instantly knew we had a new partner. Thus, the Caspari Garden Folly began its journey from dream to Garden Week reality. A designer of Bespoke Garden Sheds, Allison creates finely crafted, stunningly beautiful garden structures in both American and European designs. Together, Caspari President, Lisa, and Allison sat down to design the Caspari Garden Folly, which has a traditional French garden influence. Airy and open, the folly features paned floor to ceiling windows on all four sides, with the front and back sides opening up via a pair of French doors. The exterior features a beautiful Luxembourg Garden-inspired green finish, a sloping cedar shingled roof, and two copper pineapple finials. The final result left us gushing over Allison's work and beaming about the centerpiece of "Little Chelsea".
We placed the folly in the center of the store and our amazing partners at J.W. Townsend Landscaping flanked it and the store's doors with two beautiful plant-filled urns and two fourteen foot tall maple trees. The trees boldly framed the entry to the event, drawing the eyes up and creating a canopy of green that transformed the space into a shaded secret garden path.
The result of Townsend Landscaping's work was a breathtaking and whimsical welcome to "Little Chelsea"
Throughout the store, our additional partners took over display tables with beautiful botanical designs! Moving between each unique space was reminiscent of traversing a neighborhood pathway from personal backyard garden to personal backyard garden. We especially loved the character of LH Garden's display, as their charmingly dressed wooden mannequins made you want to give a little wave as you would if passed a neighbor tending their front flowerbeds. Their tiered table was topped with colorful hydrangeas and towering delphiniums that invited you to stop and smell the flowers.
The team at Monticello set a window front table in topiaries, ferns, and greenery accented by a bouquet of bright tulips. The elegantly styled table reflected the well-trimmed beauty of their own sprawling estate gardens. terracotta pots and cement urns gave the look a lovely stone foundation.
Catherine Bolton set a table in rich green and purple tones. Draped with a damask textured fabric cloth, the simple table's crown jewel was a large patinaed urn with elaborately scrolling handles full of greenery, purple blooms, and fragrant white lilies. A charming cluster of cherubs was perched at the table's corner and accented with more lovely botanicals.
Throughout the shop, we decorated our own share of tables in various styles ranging from exotic and tropical looks to classic pink & green floral settings.
We immensely enjoyed welcoming spring through the celebration of Historic Garden Week and having the opportunity to host the Charlottesville community and highlight it's local talent. We thank all those who attended and participated in making this beautiful event happen! We can't wait to see the blooms and friendly faces that next year brings.
This collection of sun-soaked citrus colors and botanical motifs is inspired by lake-side spring days. The mood of "Gull Lake" invites you to slow down, stop and smell the flowers, take the time to make and enjoy freshly squeezed lemonade. A celebration of spring, this look represents life, growth, and warmth through sunny hues that glow against the lush green of freshly sprouted leaves. Put on some polka dots, don a straw hat, and live the lake life with this collection.
Layer lemon yellow and bright lime with the natural tone and texture of woven rattan table & serving accents to complete the look.
"No one sets a table like Pippa", Caspari customers have commented since this PA-based former event planner, retired formally trained Chef, mother, and blogger featured a tablescape inspired by our new Fall 2018 collection on her blog. Inspired by Imperial Silk, Pippa set a stunning table for fall full of bold primary colors, mixed patterns, and elegant chinoiserie style. Giving the table her own unique twist, she handpainted pumpkins and wine glasses to coordinate with the Imperial Silk design and even decoupaged her own charger plates with the pattern! The result is a vibrant tabletop in what Pippa calls, "FULL TILT fall color."
DC blogger, entertainer, and hostess, Stephanie of Magnolia Stripes, knows how to set a tabletop for Fall. Using one of our new designs for Fall 2018, Chinese Ceramic, she's created a show-stopping table in a bold blue and orange palette. Throughout, she's included Caspari acrylic drinkware, ribbon accents, and paper tableware designs. Giving this look a modern twist, she's accented Chinese Ceramic in a fun favorite design, Spots, transforming the traditionally set table with a youthful touch. Fall and winter holidays are the premier time of the year to practice the art of entertaining, and specifically, table setting. With more than one large feast in order during this season, perfectly placed table linens, patterned plates, and charming napkins have their time to shine. With our first entertaining event quickly approaching, we’ve pulled together some helpful tips for setting your Thanksgiving table in classic Caspari style.
A. Pick your palette and start with base pieces. Choose a dinner plate that will add color and will complement the patterns on your tabletop. These solids accent and offset bold prints to give your settings the right amount of edited style.
B. Enhance the dimension of your table by layering in subtle but rich texture. Caspari Paper Linen Napkins offer a soft, plush texture that absorbs and performs like cloth. We love our Natural Jute pattern because it features a high-quality, fabric-like look.
C. Our patterns and images are sourced from artist and museums from around the world. Because of this, many Caspari Paper Plates feature elegant designs that offer the formality of fine china with the ease of disposable dinnerware. Make your pattern choices bold and chic when layering in a salad or dessert plate.
D. For a bit of unexpected fun at the table, Celebration Crackers are great additions to each pacesetting that will make more than just conversation. Have guest pair up to pull them apart with a “pop!” and split up the prizes. Each contains a paper crown, which traditionally, is worn at the dinner table.
E. A perfectly positioned place card can tell your guests everything they need to know—from where to sit to what kind of cake or casserole you’ve baked. Use them to label place settings, cheese plates, and dishes on your tabletop.
A. Guest Towel Napkins are ideal extras for any room in your home when entertaining. Leave them out next to a spread of hors d’oeuvres, leave them in a holder on the counter of your guest bath, or add them to your tabletop for a pop of pattern.
B. Another versatile addition, Cocktail Napkins offer a great way to mix & match pattern in a setting. For example, layer in a harvest-inspired fall print next to your main thanksgiving themed pieces. Leaves, berries, or even a simple splash of gold add an element of seasonal style and complement the theme without matching too perfectly.
C. To give your individual place settings a strong foundation with a Charger plate. We love Rattan Chargers, as they give a rich texture to the table and bring in warmth with their natural material. This woven accent is beautiful, functional, and offers more stability to the exceptionally full plates you will undoubtedly have at your Thanksgiving meal.
D. Placemats lay the groundwork for your table's theme. Begin here with your chosen pattern and layer upwards with neutral and complementary pieces until you top your settings off with a coordinating patterned salad plate. This technique is a sure way to marry together all the individual components into a stunning overall setting.
Whether you’re planning a small cocktail party for 20, or a large reception for 250, it can be confusing to decide how many napkins to have on hand for your guests. Never fear, we are here to help you avoid running out of guest towels in the powder room or ending up with boxes of extra dinner napkins.
For cocktail hour, we estimate 3-4 cocktail napkins per person. Place stacks on the bar and near any finger foods, and have wait staff carry when serving passed hors d’oeuvres and drinks. If you are serving a sit down meal, plan on 1-2 luncheon napkins for a daytime event or 1-2 dinner napkins for an evening affair per guest. Err on the higher side if you are serving especially messy food, such as barbecue or lobster. Guest towels can be used as hand towels in the powder room, or as buffet napkins. Either way, plan on 2 per person.
