2026 Foxfield Races Painting Unveiling

The Caspari Flagship Store hosted an evening celebrating art, tradition, and Charlottesville’s connection to the Foxfield Races on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 5:30–7:30 PM. Guests enjoyed refreshments and hors d’oeuvres as artist Cate West Zahl, creator of the 2026 Foxfield Painting, shared insights into her work.

The evening also marked the first opportunity to purchase one of only 100 raffle tickets for the chance to win the original painting.

About the Event

Foxfield Races has hosted nationally recognized steeplechase races in central Virginia for more than forty years. Twice a year, the event brings together sport, style, and community. We are delighted to welcome Charlottesville-based painter Cate West Zahl, whose work bridges classical training and expressive abstraction. Throughout the evening, Cate will share insight into her artistic practice and the inspiration behind the 2026 Foxfield Races Painting before its official unveiling. Celebrate art, tradition, and the Charlottesville community’s enduring connection to the Foxfield Races.

About the Artist

CATE WEST ZAHL

Cate is a painter based in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she lives with her husband and three sons.  She first studied studio art under Lee Newman at the Holton-Arms school, and then went on to earn her BA in Fine Arts from Hamilton College. Her academic training was based in the technical study of life, a strong foundation from which she could explore more explicit abstraction. Her resulting abstractions are reminiscent of Richard Diebenkorn’s and push his discoveries in often new and exciting directions.
