How-To: Host a Virtual Cocktail Party

How-To: Host a Virtual Cocktail Party

The coronavirus pandemic has made social distancing a part of everyday life. Fortunately, virtual platforms like Zoom, Skype, and Google Meet are helping us find ways to maintain connection and create a sense of normalcy through socialization. In truth, coming up with new types of virtual gatherings can be a fun and exciting challenge. There are endless options, from the digital dinner party to the e-book club, but our favorite by far is the virtual cocktail hour. It may not be the same as clinking your glasses, embracing friends, and swapping hors d'oeuvres, but a great hostess can still find ways to make a virtual cocktail party special.

Start by distributing your invitations. We have a few free digital downloads to consider, and those work well if you’re short on time or just want to add a little something extra to your email invitation. But, don’t forget that the people on your guest list would love getting a physical invite in the mail. You could even send a package of Caspari cocktail napkins to your recipients beforehand to create excitement around your digital shindig. In lieu of a physical gathering, these gestures make the occasion feel more personal.

Next, create the atmosphere. Doing this for a virtual event is much easier than for an in-person gathering because people can only see what’s inside the camera frame. However, you still have plenty of ways to focus on the details. A tablecloth, placemat, and coasters can all enhance your single-person setup. Adding a candle or a vase of fresh flowers also gives extra flair.

Craft camera-ready cocktails. If you’re not an expert mixologist, don’t fret. The plus side to a virtual event is that attendees won’t be tasting your creations. The goal here is to make something that tastes just right for you and looks delicious to them. Bright colors and fruit garnishes are two aspects that can make your cocktail worthy of admiration from afar.

When choosing drinkware, think about going with acrylic options, especially due to their shiny, shatter-proof material. They’ll look great on camera, plus give you the freedom to move around the house and give people different perspectives without worrying about breakage. Maybe you’ve redecorated? Your attendees will want a tour!

Life is a lot different these days, and most people heartily welcome opportunities to connect with those that matter to them. These helpful e-hosting suggestions can help you encourage friends to catch up with you over drinks via a responsible and special event.

Cheers!
